Persian Kurdish

Persian Kurdish
Critical Needs Languages?

I went over a state department list of languages in high demand in diplomatic, humanitarian, international and market oriented fields.

Arabic
Chinese
Farsi(Persian)
Kurdish
Urdu
Hindi
Punjabi
Russian
Azeri(another Turkish related languages spoken in Azerbaijan)
Japanese(in small demand but is still given high marks)

Which do you think would be more helpful to study.

Is kurdish even taught in the U.S ? lol

It depends on what you want to do.

Are your interests in business? Then Chinese would be a good one. Hindi maybe, but since most educated Indians speak English, it’s less important.

Government/counterterrorism? Probably Arabic. If you’re really into Pakistan, then Urdu would gain you broad access into the USG counterterrorism community.

Russian is also good to know for government service.

All the others are “critical” in that not many people know them, but they’re not going to get you too far beyond the narrow specialization of the country where they’re spoken. Kurdish gets you northern Iraq and a segment of Turkey, that’s all. Azeri gets you Azerbaijan.

Top 5 Persian Gardens to See While Traveling in Iran

Persian gardens have got global reputation since long time ago. People have heard about them from some famous poets like Saadi and Hafez. The interesting planning and natural settings of these places and intermingled with the beauty of Iranian architecture manifested in form of eye-catching mansions, palaces, etc in the middle of such green environments.

If you are traveling in Iran or planning to, make sure you spend some time in these stunning places. Some of them have remained and been known as gardens while others are referred to for their different functions. Here is a list of the five most dazzling gardens you will enjoy visiting in Iran:

1. Fin Garden in Kashan

The water flowing in this garden has been running for almost 7000 years from a headspring nearby. It has been first planned by Safavid kings who went hunting at Karkas mountains and needed a resort to stay in and enjoy. Later under Qajars, some annexations were made to the structures inside the garden.

The assassination of one of the most popular politicians in Iranian history occurred at this garden: The grand vizier of Nasereddin Shah was killed by the royal order of the king at the bathhouse of this garden.

2. Dolatabad Garden in Yazd

This Persian garden used to be the house of Yazd governor in 18th century. The mansion inside this walled garden is a unique octagonal-plan mansion with colorful stain glasses within sash window panes. In addition to a long pool in front of the building, there are some small ones inside the building and a room accommodating a small pool underneath the wind catcher, which is still the largest in the city.

3. Shahzadeh Garden in Mahan

Mahan is 35 km outside Kerman on the road to Bam and Zahedan. This small town has got one of the most beautiful Persian gardens in it called Shahzadeh (prince or princes) Garden. It was built by Qajar rulers so that the courtiers could enjoy the serenity and coolness of its atmosphere in hot summer days at the edge of desert. The water cascades in front of the mansion are unique.

4. House of Qavam (Narenjestan) in Shiraz

Narenjestan (orangery garden) of Qavam used to be the court of the supreme judge of Shiraz in 19th century. The architecture of the building inside it is a typical example of its own era. Due to the dominant presence of orange trees, it is known as Narenjestan. The well-known American expert in Iranian studies, Professor Pope, had his office in this building for almost six years.

5. Chehel Sotun Palace in Isfahan

Shah Abbas 2nd, the Safavid king, had ordered a palace to be built for his administration in Isfahan while he was ruling there. Although some European influence could be seen in the mural paintings and garden planning, the prevailing plan is of Persian heritage. The huge pool in front of the palace is a distinguishable element in the walled garden in which the structure has been built.

Iran has got lots of attractive sights to offer to its visitors. Apart from Persian gardens, which is a lot more than what was introduced at this article, many other instances of architecture are there crying out to be visited.

Why do People Say Persians Don’t Exist?

Persians are one of the many ethnic groups living in Iran.

According to the CIA World Factbook, Iran’s ethnic groups consist of: Persians 51%, Azeris 24%, Gilakis and Mazandaranis 8%, Kurds 7%, Arabs 3%, Lurs 2%, Baloch 2%, Turkmen 2%, other 1%.[17] Other sources mention different statistics, for example the Library of Congress has Persians 60%, Azeris 20%, Kurds 7%, Lurs 3%, Arabs 2%, Baloch 2%, Turkmens 2%, Turkic tribal groups (e.g. Qashqai) 2%, and non-Persian, non-Turkic groups (e.g. Armenians, Assyrians, and Georgians) 2%. This source however disreagards the Gilaki, Mazandarani and Talyshi population along the Capsian sea coast..[18] Another estimates are: Persians 49%, Azeris 18%, Kurds 10%, Gilakis 6%, Lors 4%, Mazandaranis 4%, Baluchis 2.4%, Arabs 2.4%, Bakhtiaris 1.9%, Turkmens 1.6%, Armenians 0.7%.[19]
