Many Varieties Of Persian Rugs

Persian rugs can be classified into Persian City Rugs and Persian Tribal Rugs. Each type within these two is normally named after the city or tribal name in which it is manufactured and designed. These are some of the most popular Persian rugs (the first four fall under Persian City Rugs):

Afshar Rugs: These are smaller rugs usually designed with geometric pattern. Multiple connected medallions in diamond shape, All-over gul farangi (roses), botehs, and chicken-like motifs (Afshar-e-Morghi) are the common designs. Colors range from dark red, reddish brown, brown, dark reddish-blue, dark blue, burnt orange, ocher, and camel. The foundation is often wool, but cotton foundation may also be used in some rugs.

Tabriz Rugs: Most of the designs are curvilinear though geometric are also found. The symmetric (Turkish) knot is common with numerous colors used in one rug, and very diverse in palette. The common background and border colors used in this design are pink, peach, camel, beige, and ivory. The overall look of Tabriz rugs is pastel. Motifs may come in an assortment of colors such as blue, green, yellow, orange, and lavender. The foundation is usually silk and wool pile with silk highlights.

Kashan Rugs: About 95% of the Kashan rugs pattern is curvilinear. An elongated diamond-shaped and lobed medallion with floral pendants is a popular traditional design. This design usually has a navy medallion with similar corners and border in a red background or vise versa. Vase, hunting and pictorial are also popular. The common background Kashan rug colors are navy, rich red, beige and ivory. Other colors such as red, blue, turquoise, ocher, beige, white, brown and occasionally green are used for the designs.

Kerman Rugs: These are also mostly curvilinear in pattern. They are famous for Kerman pictorials which fall under the pictorial category of pattern. Traditional Kerman designs include all-over floral, boteh, stripes, paneled garden, prayer, vase, garden, hunting, animal, and pictorials using both Persian and European themes etc. Modern versions consist of Aubussons or Koran (Quran) medallion-and-corners with an open field. Rich red, red-blue, lime green, pink, ivory, gray-blue, turquoise, orange, champagne and beige are some of the colors commonly used.

Baluch Rugs: These rugs are hand-woven by the nomadic people of the Baluch tribe in southern Iran, following an ancient Persian tradition, dating back to 2500 years. The design is unique with an overall pattern, with rich burgundy with some navy and ivory as the main colors.

Shiraz Rugs: Hand-woven rugs made in Shiraz, Central Iran, simply done with crudely done with the pile cut long with plain color schemes. Geometric motifs, small animals or plants are commonly used in the designs with selvages done with a barber-pole effect using two colors. Red is the main color used.

Wiss Rugs: These tribal handcrafted rugs come from the village of Wiss, near Hamedan in Iran. Traditional dense floral patterns with vases, foliage, palmettes, and garden elements are commonly used. Dark shade of red or burgundy is the main color. Wiss rugs are known for the resemblance to Arak and Tabriz designs.

Buying Guide For Persian Rugs

It’s correct a home made Persian Rug is as beautiful as it is confusing, specifically when we remember stories about flying carpets where the lover travels long distance to come and take his lover away from the hands of her tyrant keeper. It is also right that it is very tricky to judge the validity of a Persian Rug. That’s why it is important that you go to an esteemed Persian Rugs dealer who is famous for his trade and specialization in hand-crafted rugs. It’s also wished that this person has many years of experience.

For a newcomer in the business of buying Persian Rugs, it’s the worst thing to buy at going out of business sales and traveling auctions. In those places, they’ve a great choice of items and the costs are so low that it is extraordinarily alluring to buy . You should really know something very important though. Customarily, these are outlets that deal with rejected products and, at the bottom of the page, they do not offer any real savings. This is the right spot to carry out the’Buyer be aware’ policy.

Personally, I would counsel you to deal with direct importers of handmade Persian Rugs, a place where you’re feeling comfortable, where you receive good service, where all your questions are answered with lucidity and with knowledge. The staff should be in a position to tell you where the rug has been fabricated, the age, the fiber content, and even, why not, its history. Most of all you should be capable of finding honesty and integrity. With all that considered, I won’t stress enough the signification to request a certificate of veracity.
When you feel pressured, just walk off. A good Persian Rug dealer will allow you to view as many rugs as you want to view. A number of them even permit you to take the carpet home to get the feeling of it in your own residence dcor and if you did not like it, you can return them within a time limit on which both merchant and consumer have agreed.

often I am told that Persian Rugs are terribly expensive. The value of an object is in the eyes of the onlooker. It is true a handmade Persian Rug is costlier than its counterpart the machine made one, al things taken with all, it ends up to be much cheaper . Beside, there are home made carpets for all budgets and all tastes. To find the correct Persian Rug for your budget and your taste go out shopping. The best spot to start is the online shops, where you’ll find a big selection of handmade Persian and Oriental rugs of different qualities, tastes and costs. They are often sold at discounted prices to move them as fast as they can. Most of the dealers give the purchaser an explication on how the rug is formed, where it is created, how old it is, the fiber content, the knots count per square inch and best of all, they send it to your house free of charge and you can experience the feel with your own internal design and if you decide you loathe it, you can return it and it’ll cost you nothing. This is the way of purchasing. Or, you can go the normal way and visit the different rug stores of your city until you find the best carpet for your taste and budget.

now that you found the right rug, you have got a new quandary. What size should you buy? Well, the easiest rooms to cover are the entry way, the sitting room and the bedroom. There are however 2 areas in a house that are size delicate. The one is the corridor. The only way you can cover a narrow and long corridor is with runner which should cover the entire length to cover. You cannot have it too short all too long. The shortest you are able to afford to have the runner is about one feet on either side. Not any shorter than that. You cannot have it longer either, otherwise you will have to roll under or pull it out out the corridor to fit it correctly. Either way, you are stealing from its beauty and ornamental value. In the case of the dining room, the Persian Rug should be sufficiently big to cover under the whole table and, you should allow a foot and a half all around it to allow movement of the chairs without being trapped into the rug’s edges.

As you realized by this time, buying a Persian Rug can be quite challenging. However , if you find a dealer in whom you can trust, it can be good fun and quite educational. You will find out that as you are looking for that exact rug, you are learning many new things that may make the buying of the Persian Rug based on information and not just like and hate.

I just have them sitting around…Any ideas on how or where to sell them?

You can try to sell them to goodwill, or ebay…
