circumference = 2 times the radius times pi ; radius is circumference/ 2 pi
radius = 31.4 feet/ (2 times3.14) = 5 feet
Area = pi times radius squared ; radius = square root of (area/pi)
radius = square root of (78.5/3.14) = 5 feet

have you ever rented a steam carpet cleaner for area rugs?

I have two large rugs, 9 X 11. One Belgian wool about 40 years old, one dhurrie about 20 years old. Light blue and green. It’s been several years since a cleaning, they are just dusty & etc. The rug place here charges more than $100 each to clean them, I’m thinking about taking them on the porch and using a rented carpet cleaner, then draping them over the fence to dry. Please answer If you have experience!

Steam cleaning is ok if you go really easy on the cleaning solution. Residue from the cleaning solution will cause the rug to attract more dirt, and might damage the fibers if it is of the oxyclean type.

This is a confusing question, I saw once a person who had several pieces of carpet, cut into equal sixed pieces and glues them together. When you join carpeting there is a iron you use. and some type of plasic, the iron melts the plastic and fuses the rugs together. Don’t know if this helps.

How do I clean a large area rug (whole thing) in a way that is inexpensive, but effective?

When we moved in here, it was winter and obviously wet. Now our nice white area rug looks horrible. If it weren’t for the darker spots, and the very light spots under shelves, it would look a completely different color. I’ve tried everything and nothing seems to pull it all out. Seems to spread the dirt more than anything.

Rather then going through all the hassle of doing it yourself & taking a chance it might not clean, I would call around. You can probably get it professionally cleaned for $50-$75.
